Now let me explain the ideation of our noir film through a juxtaposition sketch done by myself.

Our noir film title is called "La Belle Morte"
Means Beautiful death in French.
Sounds irony isn't it?
This story is mainly about how a cult or an idea spread among us and the impact on our life.
Sometimes we have to went through the nightmare before the sweet dreams.
Sometimes hallucination is what we consume everyday without even noticed.
Some of them want to use you, but some of them wanna get used by you - Marilyn Manson's sweet dreams.

So are you going to live painfully?
or choose a beautiful death?

Synopsis flow chart

In the film, the detective has to make decision regarding the mysterious drug case.
Let's have a creative thinking session here shall we.
Do you prefer to live in a morbid life or choosing a painless and happy death?
Every people have some variation opinion for the answer.
But in my point of view about the way of life.
Life is like a stage, everyone is taking a role play in it.
Sometimes god like to play a trick with us and push us to the deepest pit.
We might crushed our skull and broke our limbs.
And even drink our own blood to barely survive.
But I believes that
"The darker hour is just before the dawn"
No matter how hard your life is,try to think of someone else.
Are you the most suffered one?
If not then grab ur arms and legs or even climb up the wall of pit by your teeth.
keep crawling and keep crawling.
I swear one day you will witness the most beautiful moment in your life.
Your effort and sacrifice ain't gonna be in vain.

A more detailed synopsis will be posted soon.
This is just a rough explanation of my ideation.
While writing this post,I'm also trying to smoothen the flow of the story.
As well as to maximize my cult.

nOiR

This topic has totally pumped my adrenaline nerves to the max baby.
We're going to film a noir video clip based on our own cult, yet we're acting as the producer,director,actress/actor, or even light-man and camera man in the whole film.
How great is that???!!!

However, to produce a fine noir film is definitely ain't a easy task, damn!!
We got a lot of referencing and homework to do before the actual shooting, brainstorming as well.
Our beloved lecturer Mr Charles told us to do a ideation crit to make it more organised in our production and progress.

Based on my understanding about Noir:
NOIR = BLACK

Yup~
Black is deep.
Black is meaningful.
Black is reality.
Black is emotional.
Black is calmness.
Black is bad ass.
Black is ME~

For me, Noir film is one of the hardest and classic type of film which had ever made in our century.
One single scene is able to portrait more than one type of meaning and emotion by playing with the light and composition.
Sounds simple yet deep instead~

Based on my research, I have found out some of the basic techniques of filming a noir movie.
  • Three Point Lighting

Well, this is pretty much the basic lighting position of a noir film.
The most important light is the key light and the background light.
The fill light is not the dominant light in the case, it helps to saturate the contrast of the light on the model's face.Hence it becomes something interesting in manipulating the shadows too.

  • Cucoloris Effect (cookies)

Cut out of wood or plastic and act as an obstacles to block the light in a sense to create the Cookies effect.
This technique is highly used in classic Noir film especially in detective genre and horror genre.

  • Smoke effect

Smoke effect is essential in the classic noir film.
Because smoke can create a highly prolific sense of mysterious and blurred contrast which enhance the black & white film greatly.
Although I does not encourage smoking but in my opinion, smoking is acting as a important factor in the noir film.
Is correct we can use dry ice to replace the cigarette, but due to our production cost, dry ice is not the first choice.
